Overview

Adventure Bay holiday destination

Bruny Island has long been the weekend and holiday destination for locals and over the past few years has become an absolute "must-see" for visitors from around the globe for several very good reasons. The beaches are beautiful, the landscape is extremely varied, the wildlife plentiful and with only a few hundred permanent residents on the island the pace of life is slow, reminiscent of Tasmania 50 years ago. There is plenty to see and do on the island and it's also the perfect destination to not do very much at all. With a considerable investment into an upgraded ferry service between Kettering and Bruny, getting on and off the island is easier and more pleasant than it used to be. The trip takes around 15 minutes which makes it possible to also live on the island and commute to work each day, as many residents do. On the southern part of Bruny Island, nestled at the southern extremity of the 7km long, easterly facing Adventure Bay is the quiet township of Adventure Bay itself. This is a historic part of Bruny Island with a rich history stretching back countless millennia with the Nuenonne band of the South East tribe of Aborigines living here. This is also where Cook and other European explorers landed with the settlement itself developing in the early days due to coal mining, timber cutting, farming, grazing and whaling activities. Today this quiet part of Bruny Island is popular with locals and tourists alike with Adventure Bay offering sheltered waters suitable for swimming, snorkelling, boating, fishing and diving with the more open part of the Bay offering some fantastic surfing opportunities. Facilities include a general store offering a wide variety of groceries and other items plus the only fuel on the island. There is also a Bowls Club serving meals on Friday nights as well as a couple of cafés and the Community Hall which is often used for activities and entertainment. There are some really enjoyable local walking tracks including the amazing Fluted Cape track which takes you to the top of the Cape with its breathtaking views over towards The Peninsula. Finding property in Adventure Bay is becoming increasingly difficult and this vacant block of land in Lockleys Road is perfectly positioned to give you some options for developing a weekend retreat, (STCA). The block is 728 square metres and backs onto the Captain Cook Creek. It's only a short walk away from the beautiful white sandy beach and within walking distance of both the bowls club and general store.
