Quamby Studio 8 c. 1941 a Sir Roy Grounds icon. Reinterpreted by Timothy Hill of Partners Hill, this one-of-eight residence harnesses the building's provenance, creating an environment of expressive, functional comfort. A true one-of-one, built into a tranquil, picturesque Yarra hillside.
Originally a wartime shelter, without any residential ambitions. Later converted, the home makes the most of its solidity and integrity, staying exceedingly efficient and exceptionally liveable in all climates.
Introduced by a northern garden blending into the rising landscape, interiors subscribe to Grounds' emphasis on inside-outside interaction sympathetically adapted for the modern day.
What was once an open room now functions as distinct-yet-connected spaces. Arranged for depth and a joy for unwinding, hosting or simply spending time in.
Sunken lounge doubles as secondary accommodation, circular dining table anchors the broader space. Rock features mirror Quamby's façade, cork wall channels Grounds. Warm window lights for mood, all-day light for atmosphere met by a green backdrop accentuating calm.
Northern rays on a sunbaking lawn, total privacy to be its own retreat away from the world. Entertainment and barbecue pavilion topped by colourful flora and protected from the elements nature-infused workspace by day, alfresco dining area by night.
