There is a bore near the garden that provides water for the gardens and currently the house. Or you can select to have mains water instead. The bore flow did not diminish in the last severe drought. The property is close to the Castlereagh River and easy walking distance to a rocky swimming hole in a side stream or larger swimming hole in the main river. There is a park by the river with picnic areas shaded by large trees. There are bush walks to the lookout hill through the back fence. The natural forest has large smooth barked angophora on sandstone outcrops filled with flannel flowers in spring. From the lookout hill you can see The Warrumbungles in the sunset, a great place for hiking & climbing 30km down the road. The Siding Spring Observatory is on a spectacular ridge with its white dome visible for miles around. Because of the observatory and the National Park, Coonabarbran is a unique diverse community with a strong arts culture. They host Pride events and celebrate their Kamileroi history and community. There are colourful Sandstone Caves and modern indigenous 'Sculptures in the Scrub' in The Pilliga forest, special places to feel deep time past. There is also The Pilliga Pottery artisan village homestay & Cafe 30km north. They now run the Royal Hotel in Coona which has become a welcoming community hub with its open fire where interest groups gather. There is a great network of people doing syntropic forestry and permaculture in the region as well as growing numbers of farmers doing regenerative ag & sequestering carbon. The local showgrounds host equestrian events.
The owner deeply regrets having to sell to move closer to grandchildren and help their families set up self sufficient living for the coming crisis.
