•I don't think Ive been yelled at by an adult since Primary school. Liam nearly lost us as potential purchasers (but we ended up purchasing the property through him in spite of his poor behaviour). He stupidly left the key in a shed roller door which the viewers needed to enter at the open house inspection... preferably not by crawling. The roller door was lifted and Liam saw actually yelled at us for his error.. leaving the key in it! He herded us around like children and was quite abrupt and rude. We nearly left, as did one other group at the viewing. After paying the deposit for the property it took 3 text messages and 2 phone calls to agents and an email to eventually receive a receipt. We were eventually sent it by the agency receptionist whom I ended up phoning. We then strangely got another copy of it the next month from another agent at Assett Realty. Organisation didnt seem to be a strong suit. Liam also emphasised features of the property that were presented as inclusions /fixtures and included in the sale which we later found were not. When we questioned his manager on this we were told to get legal advice as this was a common mistake with their sales and they had no legal obligation as the contract was signed. Liam tried to prevent us talking to the sellers and wanted all conversations to go through him even though he couldn't answer our questions about the property. He attended the building and pest inspection and tried his best to encourage us to leave but we stayed for coffee with the sellers anyway. We didn't hear from Liam or anyone at the agency again and had the sellers answer our questions from that point onwards due to the lack of communication from Assett Realty. We didn't hear from the agency for the pre-settlement inspection or even at settlement. Based on our experience and acknowledged by the sellers, we would certainly never use this agency again.
As a buyer through Assett Realty my experience has been overwhelmingly and consistently negative. The seller very nearly lost the sale due to their unprofessional, rude and dismissive behaviour. What should have been an exciting and joyful time turned into a nightmare of stress, anxiety and disappointment. From the moment we signed the contract all communication went cold - an almost total communication blackout. We were forced to chase down information required from them, while also pointing out mistakes they had made and which we had formally asked for information on multiple times. Nothing. This was on a property of well in excess of $1million… you might think that would buy you some regular polite service from this agent, but you would be incorrect. The agent misrepresented the inclusions on the property (as we subsequently discovered for ourselves) and when questioned their response was simply “oh, mistakes like this happen all the time.” So, for this agency it is normal practice to “make mistakes” of this nature as part of business-as-usual. As the buyer, these excuses appeared only to cover up their ignorance of the property while simultaneously removing any responsibility they had to offer any pathways toward satisfactory resolution. Perhaps the most gobsmacking part of our extraordinary and negative interaction with Assett Realty, and Karyn in particular, was her response to our continually unanswered questions where she finally fired back a response curtly and rudely stating (this is verbatim and we have the evidence) “Please address your concern to your solicitor as our legal obligation ends once the contract is signed and dated”. So there you have it. Assett Realty will knowingly misrepresent a property, get your signature on the contract, then absolve themselves of any and all responsibility. We never heard from Karyn or the agency again. My experience with this agency, and both agents - Karyn and Liam - was terrible and I cannot recommend.
