Reimagined in 2010 by Peter Lonergan of Cracknell Lonergan Architects, Patonga House is a study in coastal calm: a modest 1950s cottage façade that belies a substantial 218 sqm single-level home behind it.
The transformation pairs the original fibro cottage with a restrained new addition, resolved as a set of pavilions arranged around an in-ground pool and sheltered courtyard, designed for light, cross-ventilation and low-fuss holiday living.
At the centre, the kitchen, dining and main living zone anchors the plan and opens directly to the courtyard with an ideal north-east orientation, creating a protected outdoor room for everyday meals, swimming and entertaining. Full-height glazing draws the pool and garden deep into the interiors and keeps the mood quietly connected to the landscape.

Rather than clearing the site, the architects positioned both structures to work around the established trees and garden creating natural shade for relaxed afternoons.
Elevated window bands pull in daylight and distant bushland views; raw, lightly finished materials reinforce Patonga's relaxed character. Patonga is a village where the pace drops estuary, beach, and bush in close reach. Only 70 metres to the creek via Frog Lane, the property delivers the essence of Patonga living close to the water and immersed in nature.
