The landmark Castle Residences stands tall on Sydney's busy Bathurst and Castlereagh Streets. Hutchies was thrilled to work with United Development Sydney on this flagship luxury mixed use development designed by award-winning architects Candalepas Associates.
Construction of the 37 storey tower began in late 2018 and included the sensitive refurbishment of the 142 year old heritage listed Porter House building next door. The project brings together high-end apartments with five-star luxury hotel services and amenities – a distinctive offering in the Australian market.
Sitting above a 6 level basement, Castle Residences is home to 131 stunning apartments. The stand out façade boasts beautifully crafted off form concrete domes on the lower floors which perfectly complement the repetitive moulded sandstone vaneer of Porter House. Beyond level 11 it cantilevers 12m off the side and continue up 27 storeys above – suspended gracefully over the Porter House building. The top of the tower offers 5 levels of stunning stepped sky gardens to its residents.
The Porter House Hotel by MGallery offers 121 luxury hotel rooms over 10 levels. The building, formerly known as Dixson & Sons Tobacco Factory, was originally constructed circa 1876 in Victorian Classic Style and has a significant presence on the Castlereagh streetscape even with its relatively sympathetic scale. This development ensures it continues to be an important piece of the urban fabric, especially with its close proximity to the adjacent St George's Free Presbyterian Church.
Both residents and hotel guests enjoy a range of amenities between the two buildings. The hotel services the residences with room service, catering, housekeeping, laundry and maintenance – as well as full access to the hotel's facilities (restaurants, bars, gym, pool and business centre), along with 24 hour security, concierge and valet parking.
