'Knells' is a New Farm heritage house restoration of a two-storey home originally designed by Horace Driver. Our approach focuses on restoring the house to its original condition while integrating new contemporary elements. We removed and reworked the previous, non-original additions to suit contemporary living.
In line with heritage standards, new work is identifiable, complementary, and secondary to the heritage structure. New elements, including a garage, entertaining area, pool, and terrace, are designed to be part of the garden. The contemporary use of salvaged materials, like Brisbane tuff stone and brick aggregate, reflect the craftsmanship of the original architecture.
'Knells' blends heritage with modern living as an enduring heirloom. The project received a 2025 Queensland Commendation for Heritage.
