Carefully sited, the design makes good use of the entire block. An ‘L’ shaped floor plan has living areas north and west facing, while the garage and private bedrooms are on opposite sides of the central spine. Magnificent high, vaulted ceilings draw daylight into the open living spaces along the spine and louvered clerestory windows provide cross ventilation, improving air circulation while passively cooling the home.
From the front door the lofty hall finished with Travertine tiles leads past the formal ’Laura Ashley’ inspired lounge to the impressive kitchen/ dining hall. The heart of the house, pulsing with daily activity and movement. The central island bench steps down to create a dining table making a grand statement. Three metres long and 1200mm wide, completed with a 1200mm thick Caesarstone top it’s a substantial centre-piece able to transform from a homework space into a computer hub into a dinner setting. This flexibility was one of many desired properties this customised home should possess. Other ideas that informed the design include the need for a functional and inviting kitchen, a large walk-in pantry with plenty of accessible storage, a fresh design with long term appeal and that a feeling of happiness is embodied being in the home.
The architect, builder and owners worked together perfecting every detail in this unique home producing a successful realisation of the ideal dream home.
