Disappointing Experience — A Caution for Buyers Who Value Integrity

I would usually stay silent rather than post a negative review, but my experience with this agent left me feeling so unsupported that I felt it important to speak up. It also made me question the culture of the agency he represents. This wasn’t my first property purchase — I’ve bought and sold four homes, so I understand the process and the importance of working with a professional, respectful agent. Unfortunately, this was the first time I felt truly dismissed. When organising my building and pest inspection, I was discouraged from using the independent inspector I had researched and was steered toward one the agent preferred. I trusted my own judgment and stuck with my choice — thankfully. The inspector was professional and thorough, and he identified two issues that required further review by specialists. These were the kind of matters any buyer would want to understand properly before proceeding. When I raised them with the agent, I was told, “We’re going to fight you on that... we know where this goes.” When I asked where, he replied, “Taking money off the sale price.” There was no attempt to support a resolution or to engage constructively with the vendor — just resistance and a combative tone. That was the moment the relationship changed. As a woman navigating this process alone, I left that interaction feeling dismissed and uneasy. I genuinely wonder if a male buyer would have been spoken to in the same way. Even after I went unconditional, the disregard continued. Though I was told to reach out if I needed anything, when I did, I was basically told to figure it out myself. When I came to collect the keys, I overheard a staff member gossiping about me at the front desk. The agent saw me arrive but left me waiting over 10 minutes before acknowledging me. In the end, I’m grateful I trusted my instincts. To other buyers: do your research, trust your gut, and expect better.
