I originally approached Alexander around two years prior to actually selling the property as well as other agents. As I live interstate I was relying on the expertise of agents in Canberra. When I said I wasn't ready to sell back then all the other agents dropped off but Alexander continued to provide me updates on places that sold in the area but there was never any pressure to sell. Due to that I just knew I wanted Alexander to sell my property. Throughout the entire process he set my expectations and kept me updated. Alex is perhaps a junior in real estate but on first inspection we asked many questions regarding furniture that was fixed to the house, and we were told ‘I’ll chase that up for you” but he never did. As a result of this issue when we did our pre-settlement inspection we were quite unhappy as all the custom built fixed furniture had been removed and shonky paint jobs covered the holes in the walls. The rubbish bins were overflowing and we were told when bin collection occurs; he didn’t see an issue in selling us a home with two full and disgusting bins. Despite our solicitor organising the purchase of the fridge it too had been removed. Wires were poking out of a hole in the garage wall and Alex said he would chase up what they were; the answer from the tenants was apparently they didn’t know either. The fact that live wiring was sticking out unshielded and posing a significant safety issue seemed acceptable to him. The ‘cleanliness’ of the house was poor, in regards to the kitchen, bathrooms and toilets absolutely disgusting. We had to have a cleaner come for a deep clean before our removal. I also had to ask Alex on settlement day whether leaving full rubbish bins was standard practise Swenson so he could organise for them to be emptied. We were both very disappointed that the custom built in furniture had been removed when we’d expected it and deprived us of furniture we needed in the new house. When the day of settlement came we were still repeating questions that should have been answered in the months between the initial inspection and the pre-settlement inspection. When I listed those questions for Alex we received very curt responses. We felt like we were causing great difficulty for him and his manner toward us was no longer warm; despite this being his job and having asked him those questions previously with no response. Overall it was an upsetting transaction - one should be able to enjoy the purchase of a first home but we felt very unhappy. :-/
