Bree seemed to be a lovely person and quite helpful when required. However, I felt very pushed into hurrying my purchase. I made an offer which was accepted by the vendor. One would assume that the property would be advertised as such and all open homes postponed. However less than a week after my offer, another open home went ahead. Though this appears to be legal in NSW, I feel it is unethical and morally incomprehensible as it puts unnecessary pressure on the purchaser which then puts pressure on the bank and solicitor which ultimately ended up costing more money in fees. The fact that the vendor was happy to accept the amount offered should be sufficient to cancel further open homes and wait for the purchaser to organise themselves in a sufficient amount of time (MORE THAN 5 DAYS!!) What should have been an enjoyable experience was made stressful because Bree and/or her agency would not advertise the property as "under offer". I understand that the property is still technically for sale while under offer, but I believe more than a week should be granted to the purchaser to secure finance, organise a valuation, a pest and/or building inspection, and liaise with solicitors, which generally takes 2-3 weeks prior to exchanging of contracts. I would not recommend any real estate agent who practiced this technique as a general rule, even if I was a vendor. In fact, I have already discouraged friends from using them for this very reason. Customer service should play a huge part in the role of a real estate agent and this experience showed very little service on my part.
