When I met Colin at the first house inspection he was nice as pie. But things went downhill from there. He rushed us into exchanging contracts and then complained bitterly that we requested a cooling off period, which we asked for because we hadn't yet had time to carry out a building and pest inspection or get unconditional approval on our finance. Our solicitor told us it was normal, the vendor's solicitor agreed and it had no effect on Colin. The bank took some time in approving our loan application (despite us having pre-approval) and we were bombarded with texts and calls from Colin demanding to know why things were taking so long. Ummm... maybe take it up with the bank, dude! It wasn't our choice for them to take their sweet time (the joys of trying to get a home loan after a Banking Royal Commission). This was patiently explained to Colin but rather than show any understanding he continued to hassle us. I really don't understand why, as we had paid him our deposit and he'll be getting his cut of the sale price regardless. When we met him to put the SOLD sticker on the property he complained that my husband was late (he wasn't) and that I was late (by 4 minutes) and that it was dark (it was 6pm in the middle of winter, a time he'd agreed to, if he was surprised by the dark then I'm afraid that's not my problem). Settlement day arrived and he said he would meet us shortly after 5pm. Over an hour later he showed up, dumped the keys and ran off with no apology. This from the man who was incensed at me being 4 minutes late a few weeks earlier. When you're in a career where you deal with people on a daily basis it's a really good idea to keep your interactions positive, be nice, don't create bad blood. But having Colin's sullen, grumpy face in front of me while I tried to smile and have my photo taken in front of the first home I've ever purchased sucked all the joy out of what should have been an awesome moment for me. Thanks for that Colin. I'll never forget it!
