We're a retired couple who moved to Western Australia five years ago and rented out our former home in Conder, ACT. When we decided to sell it, we faced the problem of being nearly 4,000 km away! After a fair bit of internet research, we short-listed four reputable ACT real estate agencies and asked for valuations and selling costs. They all provided written proposals and similar valuations, but after a flying visit to Canberra to meet each of the agents in person, we chose Daryl. He impressed us from the outset as a very friendly, helpful and trustworthy person. He presented several marketing options, clearly explained the costs, advantages and disadvantages of each, and gave us his personal recommendation as to which would best achieve our aim of a reasonably quick sale at a good price. He also gave detailed advice and cost estimates regarding the cleaning and maintenance needed to prepare the property, and organised all the work to be done. Meanwhile, he kept us regularly and fully informed by telephone and email, with photographs of progress. We effectively left everything in Daryl's hands, and also decided to take his advice to have the property 'staged' for three weekends and then auctioned. This proved to be a most effective marketing strategy, and the house sold at the upper end of the price range predicted by all of the agencies we consulted. There were no hidden charges or surprises, and all costs and fees were exactly as quoted, so we were able to make informed financial decisions from the outset. From our point of view the whole process couldn't have been easier, as Daryl did all the work on our behalf. Good job, Daryl—much appreciated!
