This was always going to be a big ask: a new Gold Coast home purchase at the peak of the market with over 75,000 Victorians crossing the border, each looking for a place to lay their hats. Given this, I knew I was in for a fight: the aim to secure a property within the extremely tight settlement period of 45 days or less, as my family and business operations required. After loosing 4-5 offers on townhouses within the northern suburbs, we finally landed a last moment meeting and house inspection in Southport with the very vocal and upfront personality that is Gavin Trewin. We walked into a well build, wonderfully positioned townhouse on the hill in Johnston Street to be greeted with a cool ocean breeze coming into the dining area from the small deck. The outlook was pleasant however the level of home presentation left a lot to be desired, so much so, that Gavin and I immediately got down to brass tacks. Gavin apologised for the poor state of presentation but explained the opportunity. From that moment I agreed with him and I settled on a suggested figure noting that I’d put my offer in within an hour or so. To our delight, the offer was accepted, we next received a call of congratulations from Gavin, noting that he understood our family’s requirement for fast settlement and that he’d done everything in his power to make the deal work for both parties. A deal was struck and within a day or so, a contract signed. Given the unhygienic poor state of cleaning, Gavin was wise enough to add a cleaning clause onto the contract for us. This proved invaluable as when push came to shove, both the vendor’s and Gavin’s team worked a last minute miracle at settlement time, saving us a potentially massive expense in Bond Cleaning expertise. While there were a few bank dramas along the way, we’d finally landed a sensation new townhouse property, at reasonable price in one of Southport’s premium streets.
