Given the good advice and great service from Helen McWhirter during the lead up and subsequent sale of our Banjup semi-rural property it is our pleasure to provide this testimonial. Living 27 wonderful years on the same 5 acres, our house steadily acquired a free mixture of comfortable decorations and furnishings. With five children turned adult an opportunity for sea change was before us. Anyway the sands of time made it clear it was time to downsize. With the decision made to sell the property there was another week or so spent sifting through Perth’s domestic real estate market and of course contacting real estate agents. After discussions with a few candidates, we felt comfortable entrusting the sale of our property with Harcourt’s Helen McWhirter. Helen’s concept was to present the property at its simple best by highlighting the obvious natural attributes: a large many roomed house surrounded by resort-like gardens, gazebos, island pond, and swimming pool. For Helen, simple best meant: Maintain lawns and gardens. Clean, paint and above all de-clutter. Not too hard to understand or implement albeit not without a reasonable investment of time, money and hard work. Approximately six weeks later, just a few days before the first Home Open weekend, the now sparkling property was listed. All of us were encouraged by the immediate huge interest. Several parties indicated a keen desire to acquire the property. Two days later our property was under offer and acceptance. The reason we sold successfully and so quickly could be explained by great location, good luck, timing, and especially paying attention to and acting on Helen’s good advice. Also it might just have been plain hard work. Probably it was all of the above. Market Knowledge: Very professional and showed enormous skill - recommended quite a number of ideas that should be implemented prior to putting the house on the market for sale. These included: Painting the inside walls of the house white throughout, complete overhaul of the design of the front and rear gardens, painting of of all fences and other exterior items such as the Alfresco area and recommended I engage an interior designer. I accepted her recommendations and as it turned out, proved to be very fruitful, my house sold within 2 weeks of going on the market, it was only the 2nd "home open" to be undertaken. There were also many positive comments made by potential Buyers who visited the times the "Home Open" was available. Communication: a very clear and honest communicator - was very precise which in turn brought out her high knowledge of the Real Estate Market. Credibility: In my many discussions with Helen a lot of time was spent in assessing the market in my area and what was considered we should accept as an appropriate market price, particularly, as the current market was very volatile.. The point I am eluding to here is the credibility Helen demonstrated by not nominating a price well beyond the market value - as it turned out Helen decided to go to the Market in the $500's - this was a significant factor, the most important factor being that, we were all winners. Negotiation: Many negotiations were held by Helen with potential Buyers and ultimately the Buyer on my behalf - the feedback was well received, particularly by the Buyer who was well pleased with the counter offer Helen negotiated with the Buyer. In the time I have known Helen she has worked very hard, particularly, as she had many listings to deal with Harcourts at the time she agreed to be my agent.
