Making the decision to sell our family home was far from a flippant one. Although the boys are bigger, and our needs as a family have grown beyond the capacity of our beautiful high-end renovated architecturally designed home… it remains difficult to leave behind a home that everybody loves, the life-telling milestones which occurred in that home, and that is genuinely stunning. So, as a minimum, I needed to find an agent to represent our home that also reflected the values of our life and family.
I am not the easiest person to deal with and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to accuse me of reacting colourfully to a stressful environment ….so my agent would have to be smart, sharp, knowledgeable, unwavering and yet remain calm and deal with me kindly and honestly to refocus and balance me.
I commenced my pursuit to land an agent that was honest, caring and a genuine person who was experienced, knowledgeable and that I could depend on and trust when the chips were down – because that is the one person who is acting on our behalf.
I am also a person who can smell the fabrication of an untruth a mile away, so I conducted an “interview” scenario where I had individual appointments from various agents in our area. I met with the polished agent, the slick agent, the arrogant-know-it-all agent, the robot and emotionally void agent … but only one agent was completely honest enough to tell me the truth. This agent was not about coercion, manipulation or dollars – this person was committed to achieving my goal with honour and with integrity. Remember that “integrity” is doing the right thing even when no-one is watching or would know. What an incredible and rare virtue I was seeking, testing and committed to finding.
This one agent stood out to me from the outset. He was genuine and so passionate about our home that I thought that I would have to move him in with us! He knew the particulars about homes, building materials and architecture before I spoke a word. He did not
