Stewart was let down by the Lister and Cole team and no one at the company seemed willing to take responsibility once settlement was completed. Our house was previously tenanted and managed by another department at Lister and Cole, which is the main reason we were able to afford it. But it seems that the property management department failed in their duties when it came to managing and vacating the property. Upon moving in, we discovered that THREE major appliances were not in working order: the lower air conditioner, dishwasher and the cooktop. Since it is the role of the property management department to ensure these things are in working order when the tenant vacates, we were unaware of this fact at settlement. During our settlement inspection, we asked Stewart every question we could think of, but he provided very little guidance as to what we should have been looking for, and never suggested that we check the condition of the appliances. We expected someone at Lister and Cole to have checked that the house was clean and that these items listed on the contract were in working order, but were told that Lister and Cole didn't even bother to do a final inspection after tenants vacated. Furthermore, despite a myriad of locks in the house, only two keys were handed over at settlement. To this day we have still been refused keys to the window locks. The poor performance by Lister and Cole in their management of this property, and in the follow-up after settlement when these problems were identified has cost us hundreds of dollars, not including the cost of a new dishwasher as the previous one was beyond repair nor including the cost of new window locks and keys which is yet to be determined. This is money that would have been deducted from our purchase price, had the information been provided by the right people at the right time. It is a poor reflection on Stewart, whose job was to negotiate a price and obtain signed contracts. The how pretty much sold itself.
