The property was prepared well & pitched right, and the marketing campaign was spot-on – we got good exposure, without wasting big budget $$. The opens were always manned by 2 staff, and all prospects were followed up. The effort and energy expended supporting and preparing the bidders pre-auction was commendable. Ted conducted a brilliant auction, handling the stubbornly slow start with deft banter, and then once underway was adept at keeping bidders energised, mixing wit with skill. I have attended many Auctions over the years and witnessed some of, what I thought were exceptional auctioneers, that was until I saw Ted in action. I will paint the picture.... It's 9 Derwent St Box Hill North, a reasonably sloped street; 1 pm auction, middle of February and 32 degrees. Ted decides to hold the auction in the street. (difficult conditions as 40-50 people was spread out under trees looking for what shade they could get.) Dressed immaculately in a light coloured suit and tie and an enormous voice, " he calls for an opening bid" As an auctioneer you wait for the opening bid, not a sound,"Silence" A sellers nightmare, however, Ted wasn't giving up. He walked up and down the street calling for an opening bid not once, not twice but 8 times until finally a bid was given. Teds display of exuberance and persistence had to be seen to be believed. He ended up with 3 bidders using every skill set he had to get these bidders to the reserve. Eventually the property sold it to the highest bidder. One of the best performances I have seen.
