The lower Hastings area has changed radically over the years – and continues to do so with movement of people from the city to into a countrified suburbia free of the daily commute. In contrast, the property we were selling offers modern living in harmony with natural spaces extending to distant views of lake and ocean. Things “city” have no logical place. So, we anticipated that an eventual purchaser would likely not have the usual interests of those moving to Port Macquarie and we sought an agent whose personality seemed to fit the upcoming challenge. We were extremely fortunate to have chosen Tony Dekker as agent for the sale of our rural property on the Mid North Coast of NSW. It turned out to be a horrendous time to have placed the property on the market. We were in the midst of a terrible drought, so the paddocks looked at their worst. Then bushfires threatened the area for weeks, burning through more than 12,000 hectares nearby, but sparing our well-positioned property. Various inspections were cancelled because of smoke closing our road, while others were cancelled due to fire danger. In typical Australian fashion, the drought was broken by heavy rains which closed some access roads and again hindered inspections. Then COVID arrived and in-person auctions were prohibited. Through all of this Tony Dekker did a great marketing job for us, was supportive and provided wise advice. He remained upbeat and positive. He was always thoughtful, patient, friendly and knowledgeable. He gauged the market well. He was never pushy or opinionated. He presented facts and let us make decisions.
