The agent didn't know the details of the property during the inspection. I was given the wrong keys on the first day of tenancy, resulting in a 3-day delay in access. They didn't provide me with a condition report for 5 days after the start of the tenancy, and I had to specifically request it. The property wasn't clean, was filled with old junk, and the agents refused to engage in conversation or problem-solving about it, instead trying to convince me that a furnished property should be expected to contain things like old dirty towels, used soap and lotion bottles, mostly-empty packets of batteries and other bric-a-brac such as expired phone books, incomplete sets of free weights, and skipping ropes. Despite many attempts to resolve the issues collaboratively, this issue progressed to a legal termination of the tenancy, at which point the agency insisted that I break the lease, revealing their lack of understanding of the Tenancy Act. It then progressed to a bond dispute, which they withdrew at the last minute. Every interaction was adversarial, and the whole situation was extremely stressful. I would never ever consider working through Harcourts ever again.

In my earlier years I was a property manager, so I was expecting a spot on property. I’m fastidious, a perfectionist, that comes with attention to detail and cleanliness. I know all about inspection reports…but to receive a report stating everything was ✅, was a joke. I’ve tried to find out if this property was professionally cleaned and if the carpets were cleaned….but no response. I took over the said property on the 13th of January, and I’m glad my furniture doesn’t arrive until the 8th of February, as I have to clean every room, and clean out sawdust from drawers and bits n pieces ‘someone’ has left behind. Definitely not checked or cleaned. The smell of dust was so strong, I find I have to wash wooden doors, and any boards around, windows, screens and blinds. I wish I hadn’t signed a 12mth lease. On an up though…I love my new neighbours
