I have bought and sold properties with John Murray on several occasions, but also bought and sold with other agents too. He exceeded my expectations each time. The signboard barely got hammered into the ground on my most recent sale, and we had a buyer. Go with his gut feeling, its usually right, and listen to his opinion.

The Whale Coast Realty website describes an agent who ‘cares about you and goes above and beyond’. I did not experience any of this. Firstly, John made an appointment to inspect the property with me but he wasn’t available on the day - nothing wrong with that, but it was a harbinger of things to come. Following the inspection I received an email in the afternoon from the lady who showed me the property noting that John would promptly ‘follow up’. A week later John still hadn’t been in touch so I followed up the original email. Again nothing, so I called the office to speak to the lady salesperson but was put through to John. I had some questions, he said he would look into it and get back to me. Again, zip, just crickets - I had to contact him again. Eventually we reached the stage where I put in an initial bid and was waiting to hear back from John. This continued through the whole process - not once did John contact me first. He explained that the Vendor was a ‘farmer busy with the harvest’ but whenever I contacted him he had an answering bid from the Vendor ready to go. This continued until I sent an email on a Sunday (not expecting a reply) with some questions but John responded within an hour stating ‘I’ll call in the morning to finalise’. You guessed it – no phone call. I waited til Tuesday arvo before ringing. John apologised, stating he mistakenly called a ‘solicitor in Sydney with the same name as me’ but he didn’t call me following this error. I made my final offer and asked John to put this in an email (I should have requested this sooner) but he said it could take a while to get a response because the Vendor was a farmer… After hanging up I realised I had another question so I rang back only to be put on hold as John was on the phone. When I got through he congratulated me on the purchase of the property. Personally, I would not deal with John again as it left a bad taste in my mouth, but the rest of the Whale Coast team I dealt with were wonderful.
