After trying to sell our house twice before (unsuccessfully) with a different agency we were very frustrated, out of pocket and we were disillusioned. I am embarrassed to say that we had initially turned Gavin down as our agent (before he started his own agency) when we first decided to sell the house, because his appraisal was substantially lower than the agent we went with. Big mistake. Guess what happened?! Anyway - you live and learn! When we decided to try and sell the house again, we went straight to Gavin. We knew he would give us an honest appraisal, even if it meant it was lower than his competitors. We thought Gavin's appraisal was reasonable and went ahead with listing it with him. We were also lucky with the timing of the listing, Gavin explained, as there were very few houses on the market in Flora Hill. We had 4 offers in the first 2 days and accepted one. The house ended up selling for higher than 'high end' of Gavin's appraisal and we were delighted. We have huge respect for Gavin's market knowledge, but more importantly, his integrity. Our previous agents had given us high appraisal then put a pressure on us to drop it when we received no offers. Gavin gave us a realistic appraisal instead of trying to win our business with an inflated appraisal and the house sold for more than we expected anyway. Thank you Gavin :)
