Despite being in our 2nd year of a pandemic, in mid 2021 the property market was performing better than it had been for a long time. Consumer confidence was high, interest rates low, there weren’t a lot of properties on the market. We therefore decided to auction an investment property during these very best of times for investors. We knew from previous experience that the ONLY real estate agent we would give such an important task to was Scott George of Barry Plant. The property had only been open for two OFIs when the best of times became the worst of times and Victoria was suddenly plunged into lockdown number 6. We panicked and asked Scott to cancel the auction and we would rethink our investment strategy after lockdown. Scott said “No way!!! Why waste all the momentum we’ve create through plenty of internet exposure and there had been so much interest shown in the property”. Bidding between the participants climbed past expectations, until we eventually had three very serious people wanting to be the new owner of our house. Then three became two and over an hour later the auction ended with a final bid of more then $60,000 over our reserve price.
