On deciding to sell our home a close friend suggested I speak to Fran Harkin, principal at McGrath Sandringham. Notwithstanding my jaundiced view of the culture of the local real estate industry I respected my friend’s opinion & contacted Fran - it was one of the best pieces of advice I have ever been given. From the very first meeting with Fran my wife & I were impressed with her honesty & frankness. She did not try to gloss over the prevailing market difficulties & advised our home would sell if we were realistic in our expectations. Like most sellers we’d like to think we understood real estate but in reality we knew we were ‘babes in the wood’. For this reason we were prepared to listen to & take Fran’s advice & accept all of her recommendations re: pricing & presentation. Our sales campaign was during a marked downturn in the property market & in the lead up to a Federal election both of which resulted in limited interest in our property & general market uncertainty.
