Disappointing experience with Steven Webster
We chose Steven Webster due to his strong online profile, however our experience selling our home fell well short of expectations given the level of commission paid.
After the first home open, we were advised that the early offers were “pretty good” for the area, despite this being very early in the campaign. Once we chose not to accept those offers, there appeared to be no clear or structured strategy beyond the initial proposal of a midweek twilight open and a backup Saturday open.
An online offer system was used, however in our view it was not utilised effectively to create competition, as buyers could not see how their offers ranked. Steven later sought to contact buyers directly, despite not having met them, as he was not present at the home open. The home open was conducted by his assistant and business partner, which was not discussed with us in advance.
Communication declined significantly after the first week. Due to ongoing concerns, we requested a formal meeting to discuss our dissatisfaction. During this meeting, Steven raised his voice to the point where his assistant had to mute him so the discussion could continue, which we found unprofessional.
We were also left with the impression that Steven held a low view of the Belmont market, particularly in comparison to neighbouring suburbs, and we felt this influenced the overall approach taken to our sale.
Several administrative issues arose during the process, causing unnecessary stress leading up to settlement. Since settlement, we have received no follow-up contact, aside from a message on the day of settlement regarding key collection. This was nearly four weeks ago.
Overall, we did not receive the level of communication, strategy, or professionalism we expected and would not engage Steven Webster again.
