I’ve worked in real estate for some 30 years, and in an increasingly competitive industry, the fact that we’ve survived and flourished shows we’re on the right track. My former career as a language-school principal taught me skills I use in real estate every day. Organisation, planning and negotiation are basic, but I find leadership skills the most important in guiding inexperienced vendors and buyers. Leadership is about giving clients the assurance they need. Most people buy and sell houses only a handful of times in a lifetime. The unfamiliar can be daunting, and coupled with doubts about the price they can achieve or have to pay, and how that impacts on their choices, it’s a world of uncertainty that challenges almost everyone. Clients gain confidence when they get as much information as they need, as often as they need it, so that by the end, they know as much as the agent does, and can make decisions that are rock solid. For me, residential real estate offers the thrill of the chase. When you’ve given maximum effort, worked the property as much as it can be worked, then you know you got the best possible price, and your clients do too.

The authentic, astute advisor you must have whether buying or selling!
