The challenge we had was at Auction. The property passed in, and as the highest bidders we were told to stay and be given the courtesy (not the right ----- that irked me right away, why bother saying "not the right".... ) to negotiate. So we stayed, were asked what my highest offer would be, I advised the number, then immediately were told, "I'm sorry the Vendors want $1.5M and will not move on this number." ----- Well, that is not a negotiation!!! perhaps Nick you could have said. "Thanks for working with us as clearly you are interested in the property, could you give me some feedback as to your thoughts about your highest offer. I can then take this back to the Vendors and see what they say" - or alternatively - don't ask me to stay and negotiate, just call me be back during the following week. My overall buying experience was very poor. Auctioneer was rude, no one had actually done any homework on the buyer (me), if they had of, frankly you could have got more money. The negotiation did not happen until finally the following two weeks. Anyway, my goal here is to say: Although I purchased the house, it would not give me confidence if I was buying or selling again.
