We have 2 x residential properties in Gungahlin and over the years we’ve had a number of different property managers, and have found the level of service and value-add to be a less than compelling argument.
After persisting for quite a while with agencies, we figured ‘how hard could it be’? We decided to ‘self manage’ our properties and save considerable costs. For over 5 years we have managed our own rental properties, with quite a lot of success and even more learning – especially in dealing with tenancy issues.
Recently we’ve found ourselves in a position where we don’t have the time capacity to comfortably manage the paperwork and formalities around self-managing multiple properties. We approached a number of property managers and gave them the opportunity to ‘sell’ their services to us. From the outset, Sam was the stand out applicant.
Where many of the responses exhibited a ‘take it or leave it’ attitude, Sam put in the effort to fully explain his services, his points of differentiation, and clearly lay out his service options. Sam happily engaged over the phone to discuss in greater detail, actively following up to offer the chance for us to ask any more curly questions.
When we decided to run with Sam, he came to meet us at the first property and provided great feedback on the viability of the house on the rental market, and how to resolve a number of minor maintenance issues. Between recommending and engaging with a maintenance contractor to sort out the final tweeks, and finding/recommending a new tenant, Sam has delivered on all of his promises.
Although our dealing with Sam is still only in its early days, we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership with him.
