Our experience with Ian Dempsey and Ray White Preston has Positives and Negatives. Positives. Shelby was helpful at the two open inspections we attended. Rose was incredibly friendly and helpful on the phone, letting us know what was happening up until the final week. The bow on the front door and gift basket were lovely and unexpected touches. Negatives. When we went to the final inspection on a Monday before settlement, Laura let us in and turned on the lights. The stair lights were flickering and she said "Don't worry, we'll get that fixed." She then proceeded to take notes of the few things we mentioned ie. How does the front door smart lock work? (it wasn't functioning on the day). Also questions about the power, is the water solar heated, gas or electric? Is the ducted heating gas or electric? Laura said she'd get back to us on those issues ASAP. We took her at her word but didn't hear anything during the week. We were busy preparing our move. On Friday afternoon after we had finally received, signed and delivered the contract, Rose returned our call to say there was something wrong with the front door lock and added the house was either gas or electric. On the following Tuesday for settlement day when we got the keys, we discovered: - Even after replacing the batteries, the front door smart lock had a faulty mechanism. - Staircase light was still flickering. - Two more lights needed replacing. - Most concerningly, the internal back door to garage keys were missing. We called Rose and she told us the previous tenants never returned them and we bought the house "as is", so there's nothing she can do. The only keys we saw up to this point were a heap of window keys I stumbled across in a kitchen drawer. This added unnecessary stress and a real feeling of disappointment on the first day of buying our first home. These simple but very important factors were poorly managed.
