Since my decision to sell my unit, I've interviewed over 6 agents and checked out their credentials. All agents had good experience, but only one agent did not keep calling me all the time, pretending they were my friend or simply following up all the time--this agent was James Cahill from Belle Properties Glebe. James waited for the 12 or so months it took me to make up my mind about selling. I called him many times during this period with all sorts of questions and he was always helpful but never pushed me to do anything. Finally, when I placed my home in James' hands to sell, he was excellent. He put up with my obsession about my very sneaky kitty escaping during an open for inspection. Mia, my cat, took to James (which is a plus for him), and I believe she even came out from under the bed to say "hello" to some of the prospective buyers. You know the phrase "Love me, love my dog?" or in my case, "Love me, love my cat." James always respected my wishes, all of which revolved around Mia--the real owner of my unit :) The strongest point about James is his negotiating skills, especially in the face of the owner (that being me) getting too emotionally involved in the process. James kept a cool head for both of us and in the end he got me the best deal I could imagine. James knows his market, his audience and he's in every way a professional. My only negative point about James is that he didn't know who Ziggy Stardust was, but when I told him it was David Bowie he understood. I guess being younger than me, James was no around during the Ziggy days. In any case, James put up with all my comments about David Bowie (and I must have driven him mad, but he took it well).. The only thing James failed to deliver on was to find the man himself and bring him home to me. Oh well, all agents can't be perfect, but at least he tried. Thank you, James. When I finally do meet David Bowie I'll call you to sell his penthouse apartment in NYC :D
